Gallery of 3D.com Profile - Ian & Dominic Higgins
Artist's Name: Ian & Dominic Higgins

3D Status: Professional
Question 1: How did you get into the Industry?
Ian & Dominic Higgins: We were first introduced to computer art while studying 3D design at Bournville Art School in Birmingham, England. But it wasn't until we bought our first computer that we actually began to really experiment. One of our first pieces of software was Poser 1, which we got free with Computer Arts magazine.
Question 2: What are you currently working on, if not hush hush?
Ian & Dominic Higgins: Currently we are spending every moment of our spare time working on a very ambitious animated project. We have just completed an online presentation which has so far taken over a year to put together and includes rough visualisations and production art. To create the visuals we have mainly relied on our skills with Poser and Bryce. By fully exploiting the Internet we really believe we can revolutionise the way animated movies are made.
Question 3: Which piece of your work is your favourite and why?
Ian & Dominic Higgins: We don't really have one particular favourite. I guess it depends on what mood we're in :)
Question 4: Which other 3D artists have impressed you and how?
Ian & Dominic Higgins: The quality of work displayed here at Gallery of 3D is often a source of great inspiration. But most of our inspiration actually comes from great painters such as Rembrandt and Thomas Cole, also filmmakers such as Francis Ford Coppola, Akira Kurosawa and Baz Lurman to name but a few.
Question 5: What 3D ambitions do you hold?
Ian & Dominic Higgins: We're interested in exploring animation more and seeing how much further we can take our software skills.

Waiting

This was the result of experimenting and developing hair techniques in post-production.

With this piece our aim was to get away from that CG look to create a more traditional painted look. It's a style that's more in keeping with a feel for history and helps capture more of a sense of drama to the scene.

The Space Tourist

The thing about "The Space Tourist" that we like is the use of colour. Colour is often something that draws us to a subject. With this piece we had the chance to go sci-fi, something we've been meaning to try for sometime..

We wanted to create something different and with this piece we had the chance to try out creating more stylised forms within Poser.

The Spirit of the Dragon

This was a big challenge. Bruce Lee was a big childhood hero and we wanted to do more than just recreate his likeness, we wanted to recapture some of his spirit. We are especially pleased with this one because he actually started off as the female Poser figure "Victoria" from Daz production's a case of Adam being made from Eve!!
