[CG News] Worldweaver Ltd announce the latest release of their games and simulation platform DX Studio
Pinewood studios based software developers Worldweaver Ltd announce the latest release of their games and simulation platform DX Studio.

Version 2.3 comes packed with new features including PhysX support, depth of field, simple user control creation, scrolling listboxes, full tweening on all object properties, DXT support and a spherical map importer. There have also been a number of performance and memory usage optimizations. Full details of all the new features in v2.3 can be found at news.

Weve done a lot of work embedding the PhysX engine into DX Studio but the benefits of using PhysX should really help users looking to create particular gaming environments, especially given the recent announcement of Nvidias acquisition of Ageia and that they will soon introduce PhysX physics processing support into all GeForce 8-series graphics cards through a simple software download. Of course, we have still kept the option for users to use Bullet physics too as it is still proving to be more appropriate for creating certain environments said CEO and founder Chris Sterling.

The latest version of DX Studio also sees the release of their own demo game, Hut of the Dead. The game is free to play and all script available to DX Studio users to help with their own projects. There is also a competition running for the best game play modification of Hut of the Dead.

DX Studio licenses are available in both freeware and commercial editions (from 50) and can be downloaded from the website at dxstudio.com.

[CG News] Making of Galaxy Explorer Spaceship by CG Artist Aamir Khan

Following the announcement of Galaxy Explorer Contest winners, We decided to feature the Making of Galaxy Explorer Spaceship by CG Artist Aamir Khan - the first Runner up of Galaxy Explorer contest. Galaxy Explorer contest is quite unique and the idea behind providing the contestant with the base 3d model to work upon, is for making the contest much more competitive, giving a sense of live project (paid project you do in your studios) as well as too - give every contestant equal opportunity to Win, by asking contestant to work on the same 3d model rather than giving a loose theme in which artists tends to work only in the line of their strongest skill. Aamir Khan not only made a very detailed 3d model of spaceship keeping the contest guidelines in mind, infect his 3d model of Galaxy Explorer gives us a sense; that it is, quite Realistically possible in modest terms. In following write-up CG Artist Aamir khan tries explains about his concepts / 3d modeling and the making of his "Galaxy Explorer - da Evolution 3d / CG Contest" prize winning Entry...........featured Link!!

[CG News] Texturama.com
Texturama.com releases its new website featuring the world's first
"Build-Your-Own" professional texture collection.

Palo Alto, CA - June 16, 2006 - Texturama.com unveils its new website
featuring "Mix and Match", a method of building your own collection from a vast, ever-growing library of seamless texture maps. The library includes over four thousand textures divided into fifty categories and is organized by either material or environmental context. Each texture is easily obtainable through a logical categorical tree and downloadable upon checkout.

The idea behind Mix and Match originated from digital artists wanting
smaller and more specific packages. Instead of purchasing unnecessary textures that come bundled in large and expensive collections, Mix and Match allows artists to get exactly what they want and pay for only what they need. The Mix and Match design incorporates a tiered pricing plan, ranging from one texture for $5 (US) all the way up to 400 textures for $200.

According to Eric Brian Smith, principal of Texturama.com, "The great thing about Mix and Match is it gives digital artists the flexibility they've
never had before.and you know you're getting professional-grade product because you can see all the samples in a tiled 3D rendering."

Texturama uses a seven-step image cleaning and tiling process as outlined on the company's website. Additionally, free high-resolution samples are offered to demonstrate quality.

For those who want to purchase a specific category without searching through the site, Texturama.com has incorporated pre-defined packages for quick selection and purchase.

If one wants to buy out the whole store, the new "Kryptonite Pack" contains everything on the website. You can safely purchase it now, because you get a free upgrade for the next major release.
